Airlines use algorithms to predict “no-shows,” but sometimes everyone shows up. This is Overbooking.
Voluntary Bumping: The airline asks for volunteers to take a later flight in exchange for vouchers. Don’t take the first offer! Negotiate for cash and a guaranteed seat on the next flight.
Involuntary Bumping: If they force you off the plane, you are entitled to:
- A full refund or a flight to your destination.
- Cash compensation (up to €600) immediately at the airport.
Lawyer’s Secret: Do not sign any document that waives your right to further compensation until you’ve checked the local laws.
