When your flight is delayed, the airline’s responsibility starts long before the 3-hour compensation mark. Under EU 261, you have a “Right to Care” based on the distance of your flight:
- 2 Hours Delay: For flights under 1,500km.
- 3 Hours Delay: For internal EU flights over 1,500km.
- 4 Hours Delay: For all other flights.
What is included?
- Food & Drinks: Vouchers for meals and refreshments.
- Communication: Two phone calls or emails (yes, this is still in the law!).
- Accommodation: If the delay is overnight, the airline must provide a hotel room and transport to get there.
Pro Tip: If the airline staff is overwhelmed and tells you to “book it yourself,” keep every single receipt. You can claim these expenses back later!
